For those with hand strain problems...

I've started a thread at TCJ.com about Wacom's Cintiq monitor and how it's virtually eliminated any hand strain in my work. Also posted one of the more detailed panels from my next book Making Comics, which is being drawn on the Cintiq, if you're curious.

What do you think about this? I think my suggestion came across as more radical than I'd intended, but it's resulting in an interesting discussion.

The panel looks amazing.

Is the morning improv going to get started up again at some point?
Alas, need to finish the book first (Jan 2006 deadline) THEN finish The Right Number. After that, yes. Sorry for the delays!
I was looking forward to the end of The Right Number. Good luck.
I have been wondering when we might see part 3 of The Right Number. I enjoyed the first two parts and was a bit discouraged at the delay for the ending. My BitPass money is languishing . . .
Agreed on how awesome they are. It took some getting used to for use with Flash as people were constantly twisting their arms above their drawing areas to reach the menu screens, but I think they're fantastic for more drawing-friendly programs.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm loving my little 4x5 Wacom but hand strain is something I need to think about.
I've had an "Art Pad II" which has lasted since it was new. Even though the lower end model (Graphire) has better resolution, it "ain't broken so I won't fix it."

However, I want to get a Cintiq some day!!!

Out of my price range, though. I could buy a good 3.6gighz computer to go with my 2.6 one and have $ left over for MAYA for that kind of money.
Scott, good luck with Making Comics! Can't wait to read it. Take care.
I draw all of my illustrations with an Intuos3 9"x12" Wacom. Almost no one guesses as much, either. If you check out my work, most liken it to brush and ink which is fine with me!

Do you happen to use Illustrator, Photoshop, Painter, or something else?
[wow! you found an old thread!]

Illustrator for lettering. Photoshop for art.
[Meta commentary: I have a knack for reviving long dead topics.]

I assume you're pencil tooling with the brush size set to pen pressure?

Nope. Just dimming the whole layer and drawing in black.
Cool beans; working digitally decongests the workflow a lot. Looking forward to picking up the book and (hopefully) saying hi when you hit Illinois.
