Surprise!

Actually, the surprise was on me and Google this morning. Apparently a few copies were shipped to Europe before the official launch date of this Wednesday. No harm done though.

Since it's creative commons, I'll probably serve up my own web-formatted version, but in the meantime, enjoy this scanned-in version of the comic I created for Google to announce their new browser, the gorgeous Google Chrome.

I know, I could have remained silent on that and no one would have known about my near failure, or indeed my failure tomorrow, or whenever it comes, but then I wouldn’t have had any opening sentence for this post.

In my opinion, this one single legacy design decision has probably done more than any other to hold back the development of cluster-aware network filesystems on Win32 systems.
Great comic, Scott!

(My fingers keep wanting to type "Great Scott, comic!" a la Doc Brown, though.)

The fact that I have to scroll up and down to read traditional vertically-oriented Scott McCloud comic pages extolling the virtues of a service designed from the ground up to better display web-friendly content BURNS MY EYES OUT WITH WHITE-HOT IRONY, though.
Yeah, it's really a printed comic, first and foremost. That thing I linked to is just someone's scanned in version.

I'll put my own nowheregirl.com-style clickthru online soon, but I want to wait until traffic dies down a little to avoid owing $$$s in bandwidth. ;-)

Scott, this is very very cool. Google certainly hired the perfect person for the job.
He left a good job at Microsoft to relocate and take a job at Google knowing full well in advance what the stock price, options package and salary would be, then goes on to criticize all of the above upon his arrival.

You've made the anticipation of Chrome very fun and very exciting. The frame where a guy exclaims "Hurry up dammit" during a tab hang and his girlfriend states "Try closing some tabs" is absolutely hilarious.
Scott! Oh, my God, this was that thing that you couldn't talk about when you were speaking at Stumptown in April. (Well, it was at least one of the things you couldn't talk about.) Oh, man, congratulations. It's beautiful.
oh Wow... that's so cool. now I know why you haven't been blogging as much.

nice job

Well done, Scott! Congratulations!

Very clever of them Google-types. They made a topic I care very little about rather interesting. Google has, in so many ways, done a great job in humanising their business and giving it a friendly face.

First of all, I just finished reading Zot! and wanted to say how incredible it was!

Returning to the post though, I am a comic collector, and would love to have a copy of this in my collection. I was wondering how I could acquire a print copy of this book, either through yourself, or if you could refer me to somebody you know it was sent to and would be willing to sell it to a fan. I have been a fan of yours ever since picking up Understanding Comics and it would be amazing to have this rare comic in my collection. If you know how I could accomplish that, you can contact me at seth.mutchler@gmail.com Thanks!

I wish I was that sneaky, but actually I was just thinking of a generic "omnivore." :-)

Sadly, though, I'd have to say that we're heading into carnivore territory these days...

This is a great comic. Thank you!
Congrats in having Google recognize your expertise in the realm of sequential art. That's some success that's well, well deserved.
And now your product has launched, so its time for some well deserved rest, right. (. . . ) Your seemingly elegant design begins to bloat with features, tear under the pressure of localization, and nearly keel over under the weight of new content that pushes it to its breaking point.

Not being a comic guy I didn't know who you were, but I do now! Looks like you understand the tech pretty well to come up with your ideas. I loved it.
" BE: Now, it looks like our presidential candidates are pretty well set now in Obama and McCain. These two have extremely different perspectives on Iraq , so obviously this issue is going to come into sharp relief in the coming months.
Oh awesome! Haha~ You know, I had a sneaking suspicion it was google. They're really hush hush about everything, and they really mean it! That's so cool and a great idea for them. They're lucky! :D

Congratulations, Scott! Brought a big ol' smile to my face this labor day.
Heh. I'm sure you remember the silence on the other end of the phone when you mentioned Google in reference to my "secret project." I take my NDAs seriously. ^__^
...this would have gotten it. I can't think of a better way to present this information than with the comic you created.

Any chance of a Dekko theme for Chrome?
Wow. Brilliant. The browser, and the comic!

Can't wait to see the browser now so I guess you did your job! ;)
