The Future is Here

It's official!

A few weeks ago, I visited the Manhattan offices of our friends at First Second books to discuss my plans for an original graphic novel that I've been dreaming of for more than two decades, and which, in the last couple of years, has become a full-blown obsession. The three of us—myself, First Second, and the book—got along so well together, that we've decided to get hitched for the above linked-to two-book deal.

This means that I'll be working with a great comics-savvy team and a whip-smart editor, but perhaps best of all, it means that when I travel to New York (which I'll be doing often since the graphic novel takes place in Manhattan) I get to visit their offices in the frickin' FLATIRON building:

How cool is that?

I'm redesigning my site right now and will be relaunching with a new blog soon, so look for many more details and sneak peaks of this massive new project in the near future.

Hi, Cat!

Right now, I'm just try to modernize my creaky old site and introduce a proper front page blog. Its current incarnation is almost completely devoid of CSS and PHP and woefully out of date. Needless to say, that's about to change.

I'm about 75% of the way through the redesign so far. It's been a blast learning new stuff. Once it's live, I'll probably spend a month chasing down bugs, but then hope to get new comics content running in addition to the blog updates.
One more reason to love :01. Yay!
The Flatiron is being sold & turned into condos (much to Tor's dismay as well).

Other than that, good news.
Oh, Scott, I know that obsessed feeling one has with a comic dream that spends the better part of 5+ years bouncing around in ones mind. I'm there now, but still in the scripting stages. I'm giddy with delight knowing that you get to move forward with your comic dream. Giddy and maybe a litle jealous. ;)

I finished your books, most recently "Making Comics" (which is research I can apply when scripting for my comic is done with). I was really-REALLY impressed! I'm telling all my friends about you, and you've got a fan. :) I'll be watching for your new comic! Shame you're in NYC, and not Seattle. Alas, I guess.

That's great. There is no way something like this can go wrong when we put ourselves completely into it, even by accident, when our work is bigger than us.

Good luck! Can't wait.
